In the Kombai desktop app, the Kombai Browser opens as a tab in your chat’s right panel instead of in a separate Chrome window. You and Kombai’s agent work on the same pages, next to the chat. The in-app browser is available only in the desktop app. The IDE extension always opens the Kombai Browser in a Chrome window.

How browser pages work across chats

Each chat has a separate browser session. Every page you or the agent opens in a chat belongs to that particular chat’s session. The agent can only see the pages from the current chat. To have the agent work on a page that’s open in another chat, open the page again in the current chat. Each page has a navigation row with Back, Forward, Reload (Stop while the page loads), and an address field. Kombai treats what you type in the address field as an address, not a search.

Set the page’s screen size

Click the zoom chip or the Page menu button, then pick a preset or set the zoom yourself: You can also use Cmd or Ctrl + −/+ to change the page zoom.

Choose where the browser opens

Each chat uses one of two browsers:
  • New Tab: The in-app browser described on this page.
  • External Browser: A separate Chrome window with the Kombai Browser extension.
To change a chat’s browser, click the chevron next to the icon in the top bar and choose New Tab or External Browser. A check marks the chat’s current browser. Your choice opens a page and applies to that chat until you close it or restart the app. To open one in-app page in a Chrome window, open the Page menu and choose Open in Chrome window. That chat then uses the Chrome window. Switching doesn’t move pages that are already open. The agent keeps using any browser it already has open, and its next new browser opens in the chat’s new choice.

Set the default browser

Chats you haven’t picked a browser for use the Default browser setting:
  1. Open Settings and go to the Kombai Browser tab.
  2. Set Default browser to New Tab or External Browser.
The setting applies the next time a chat opens a browser.

What works in each browser

The agent’s browser tools — navigating, clicking, typing, screenshots, inspection, and audits — work the same in both. The browser extension’s sidebar exists only in the Chrome window. If you want to send elements or visual edits from the page, switch the chat to External Browser. See Capabilities for the sidebar tools.

Sign-ins and cookies

Sign-ins in the in-app browser persist across chats and app restarts. If you imported a Chrome profile, its cookies apply to in-app pages too. Sites in the in-app browser can’t use your camera or microphone, and other permission requests are denied, because the app has no permission prompt. To clear in-app sign-ins:
Clearing also deletes the cookies you imported from Chrome profiles, including for the Kombai IDE extension. You can import them again from Settings > Kombai Browser.
  1. Open Settings and go to the Other tab.
  2. Next to Clear browser cookies and site data, click Clear.
  3. In the Clear browser data? dialog, click Clear.
The row shows Browser data cleared. when it finishes. Open pages stay open, signed out. Signing out of Kombai clears the same data.
