Once a Design System is created, you can edit its tokens, apply it to designs, attach it to the chat as context, or delete it.

Edit a Design System

You can edit a Design System by describing the change to the agent, or by editing its underlying .ds file — Markdown with a YAML front-matter block — directly.
  1. Open the Design Systems page and select a Design System from the My design systems tab.
  2. Above its spec, click Edit with AI, or click the arrow next to it and select Manual edit.
    • Edit with AI opens a new chat with the Design System attached. Describe the change you want and send it.
    • Manual edit opens the Design System’s detail page in edit mode, so you can edit any token or prose section directly.
  3. If you chose Manual edit, click Save to apply the changes, or Cancel to discard them.
Editing is unavailable while the Design System is still generating.

Apply a Design System

Applying a Design System regenerates the selected design using its tokens, while preserving the original layout and content.
  1. Select the design on the Canvas you want to apply the Design System to.
  2. Right-click the selection to open the context menu. Under the Design System section, open the Apply submenu.
  3. Select the Design System you want. Kombai sends a prompt to the agent to regenerate the selected design using the Design System’s tokens.
The Design Systems page is where you browse and manage your systems — applying a system to a design is done from the Canvas context menu above.

Attach a Design System in chat

To attach a Design System to the chat as context:
  1. Click the icon in the chat input to open the Design System popover.
  2. Select the Design System you want to attach to the chat as context.

Export a Design System

Export saves one of your Design Systems as a .ds file you can share or back up.
  1. Open the Design Systems page and select a Design System from the My design systems tab.
  2. Open the menu above its spec.
  3. Select Export design system, then choose where to save the file.
Only Design Systems in My design systems can be exported. Export design system isn’t available when the Design Systems page is open in a standalone browser tab instead of inside Kombai.

Delete a Design System

Deleting a Design System is permanent and cannot be undone.
  1. Open the Design Systems page and select a Design System from the My design systems tab.
  2. Open the menu above its spec and select Delete.
  3. Click Delete in the confirmation dialog.
